Free Tax Assistance Available
2 groups want to put more money into the pockets of low-income workers this tax season.
Kansas City area taxpayers failed to claim an estimated $34 million in Earned Income Tax Credits last year. The United Way and the KC CASH Coalition want to help taxpayers take advantage of this program, which could put $400 to $4,700 more into the pockets of qualifying individuals and families.
“One of the United Way’s goals is to help people become financially self-sufficient,” said Jason Wood, United Way spokesman. “EITC can provide a tax refund large enough to help families, struggling to pay their bills, get started on the road to financial stability.”
The free tax assistance is available at several locations for taxpayers with a household income of less than $40,000. For more information, dial 211 or 816-474-5112 to speak with a call specialist available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call specialists can determine if you are eligible for the tax credit.
